چکیده
It is established that the compression behavior of gas diffusion layers (GDL) dependent on level mechanical stress it experienced during its lifetime. As a matter fact, every cycle induces damages in GDL, including fibers breakage and/or their spatial reorganization. observed experimental work, first GDLs as received from suppliers already altered by previous applied manufacturing process. This paper then presents model able to predict cyclic considering existence this compressive The properties three main types non-woven GDL (rolls, sheets and felts) were measured predicted using proposed model, thereby allowing separate influences process, type fibers, presence micro-porous layer hydrophobic treatment GDL.

Study of Gas Diffusion Layers in Pem Fuel Cells
Fuel cells are electrochemical devices which convert chemical energy of a reacting fuel directly into electricity with high efficiency and no pollution. Proton Exchange/ Polymer Electrolyte Membrane (PEM) fuel cells are likely to be among one of the most promising energy sources for transportation, heating and power generation. Some of the key materials used in PEM fuel cells are catalysts, mem...
متن کاملModeling and Optimization of non - isothermal two- phase flow in the cathode gas diffusion layer of PEM fuel cell
In this paper, a non-isothermal two-phase flow in the cathode gas diffusion layer (GDL) of PEM fuel cell is modeled. The governing equations including energy, mass and momentum conservation equations are solved by numerical methods. Also, the optimal values of the effective parameters such as the electrodes porosity, gas diffusion layer (GDL) thickness and inlet relative humidity are calculated...

متن کاملEffect of Compression on the Effective Thermal Conductivity and Thermal Contact Resistance in Pem Fuel Cell Gas Diffusion Layers
Heat transfer through the gas diffusion layer (GDL) of a PEM fuel cell is a key process in the design and operation a PEM fuel cell. The analysis of this process requires determination of the effective thermal conductivity as well as the thermal contact resistance between the GDL and adjacent surfaces/layers. In the present study, a guarded-hot-plate apparatus has been designed and built to mea...
متن کاملEffect of Ptfe on Thermal Conductivity of Gas Diffusion Layers of Pem Fuel Cells
Through-plane thermal conductivity of 14 SIGRACET gas diffusion layers (GDLs), including series 24 & 34, as well as 25 & 35, are measured under different compressive pressures, ranging from 2 to 14 bar, at the temperature of around 60 ͦC. The effect of compression, PTFE loadings, and micro porous layer (MPL) on thermal conductivity of the GDLs and their contact resistance with an iron clamping s...
